I need here to just mention some frustrating issues which complicated matters for our scorers. These all arose from the problem that some players had clearly been inadequately supplied with the documents detailing arrangements and requirements for the day, or had failed to give them sufficient attention.
1/ Some players arrived expecting to use a buggy but had not given the required notice and medical evidence.
2/ several players failed to provide updated latest handicaps (there was some misinterpretation of my reference to 10Oct as being the ‘deadline’ for providing updated handicaps which was intended to be the deadline for the printing of the start sheet and scorecards, not as a cut-off date to exclude subsequent changes);
3/ several markers failed to observe the guidelines for entering cards and failed to enter scores and points in the clearly designated columns. It required considerable effort to obtain correct handicaps from EG and accept that at least gross scores for each pair were available and thereby avoid multiple disqualifications.
These are not problems which have arisen in previous years and we will review means of avoiding them for the future.
Nevertheless I acknowledge with thanks all your efforts which helped to make the event run smoothly in all other respects.
Regards, John Crates.
